Eliza Outlaw is a multidisciplinary artist, performer and musician from North Yorkshire, currently based in London. They utilise both mediums of photography and sound exploring their connections, focusing on communication, digital translation and relationships with or between technologies.
Their work is often political, supported, and embedded in cyber, glitch, and technofeminist theory. Much of Eliza’s practice is as focused on research as it is on realisation, as they often draw attention to the process of learning that goes into a body of work as a part of any finalised piece. They combine research in self-documented auditory archives whilst exploring outdated sound and image technologies or programmes, using their findings to create new artistic applications of functional devices. Repurposing and rewiring the trajectory of their narrative into a feminist space.
Eliza also creates music and goes by the handel x_e_v_o_l_x when produing for others and creating their own soundscapes. She is also one half of the feminist punk band DOTYK with lifelong collaborator Honorata Hryciak, songwriting, DJing, recording, designing, managing and performing side by side. Together they also run promotional event “HAZY” which is a gig night that highlights female or queer bands and performers.
